Video Editing Schools
As you settle in to watch your favorite movie or TV show, you are seeing the final edit of a long and complicated process. Film and video editors are an extremely important part of the production process because they decide what footage should make it into the final cut. They make transitions smooth and seamless, and they put the finishing touches on the film so that you are only vaguely aware that you're watching a movie at all.
Film and video editors need certification.
Unless you already know a lot about cropping, editing, composition, storylines, and other related fields, you probably need to get some training first. In addition, editors need to become pseudo-directors, light technicians, grips, and production managers. All this training is necessary--not only for your own benefit, but also, to prove to potential employers that you possess the requisite skills to make a quality product. Film production is a very insular group, and it is doubtful that you'll get very far without proper credentials.
Days filled with action, cutting, slicing, and dicing
Film and video editors are involved in numerous steps of the production process, but the bulk of their work comes during the final steps of the project. Usually with the help of technicians, computers, and the director, editors spend hours proofing shots, combining scenes, and deleting unwanted material. Because most productions adhere to a schedule, the process can become frantic. However, the need for accuracy and patience is no less important, so editors need to be dedicated and skilled so as to create the best product possible.
