Architecture Colleges

The only things preventing you from designing the next Empire State Building or Golden Gate Bridge is architecture college, licensing, and an apprenticeship. Find out how architecture design school can help you launch an exciting career.

Architecture is a field that requires both absolute command of engineering, math, and physics and a deep appreciation of aesthetics, art, and design. It does not pay to have structurally sound buildings that no one wants to look at, nor do you want stunningly beautiful buildings that are unsafe to enter. This is why architecture college is so essential. Only through formal education can one hope to master both the aesthetics and engineering required for success in the industry.

What Can You Learn from Architecture College?

In a standard bachelor's or master's program, your architecture college exposes you to areas such as:

  • computer-aided design technology
  • 2D and 3D art
  • structural engineering and mechanics
  • physics and mathematics
  • computer science
  • architecture history
  • construction, materials, and building methodologies

These are just some of the main disciplines every beginning student must master. However, many go on to specialize in individual areas such as green living, sustainable design, commercial vs. residential architecture, and beyond.

Architecture College and Career Outlook

According to the US Department of Labor, the architecture industry is expected to enjoy faster than average growth through 2018, suggesting that job opportunities for qualified professionals should be abundant. However, it is worth noting that the vast majority of States heavily regulate the architecture industry due to the numerous safety and design aspects that go into erecting new buildings. So while job opportunities might be abundant, the chances of your securing a full-time position as an architect are incredibly low if you have not completed formal training. Along similar lines, each successive year of education potentially moves you farther up the career ladder. So if you have an opportunity to complete a master's rather than a bachelor's degree in architecture, it is worth going for the former.
