Architectural Design Colleges
Architecture is such a specialized field that very few people can enter without formal training. In fact, most States require people to have advanced degrees from accredited architectural design colleges before they can begin practicing professionally.
The are many career fields in which you can enter on the ground floor with zero training and slowly work your way up to the top. Architecture is not one of those fields. Part artists and part engineers, architects must posses both the creativity to make their designs aesthetically pleasing and the structural knowhow to make their designs safe.
Not surprisingly, there exist a range of practical and regulatory requirements on the road to becoming an architect, including licensing and apprenticeships. First and foremost on this list, however, are professional degrees from architectural design colleges.
What Can You Learn from Architectural Design Colleges?
As you work towards a bachelor's degree or higher in architecture, you can expect to cover areas such as:
- 2D art, 3D art, and computer-aided design
- physics, engineering, and math
- art history, architectural theory, and building design
- construction methods, materials, and technology
After securing a foundation in the above disciplines, it is possible to specialize in unique areas. For example, some architects focus on green living and sustainable design. Others focus on urban expansion and renewal. And still others classify their specialty as residential, commercial, or governmental architecture. Suffice to say that when the world is your canvas, the possibilities are literally limitless.
Architectural Design Colleges and Career Outlook
If you make it through formal training at a design school, the subsequent licensing and apprenticeship requirements should be relatively easy to satisfy. Thereafter, you can enter an industry that is expected to grow significantly faster than the national average for all other industries through 2018. As long as society needs homes, schools, offices, bridges, and hospitals, graduates of architectural design colleges should enjoy healthy demand.
