Tips for Creating and Maintaining a Successful Brand A brand is essential to the success of any business, large or small. It is the company's identity, its psychological form, what helps create new customers and retain established ones. Perception is everything, and a company's brand is its perception. Here are some tips for branding for graphic designers whose job it is to help create and maintain successful brands: Simplicity A 1-3 word business name, a short, memorable slogan, and a clean logo or icon help make the brand simple. If the brand is too complicated, it will be lost on the target audience. Keeping a brand simple will foster recognition and even loyalty with a customer base. Population Populate the brand. Create designs for the brand that extend to print (business cards, letterheads), the company website, the company's location - everywhere. Branding represents a large opportunity for a designer to get creative. Consistency Ensure that the brand appears the same exact way, in the same exact media. The same logo that appears on the front door of the company's building should look exactly the same as the logo on the website, the letterhead, the paycheck. Let customers observe the same images, typography, colors, and layout in every communication the business has with them. Other tips for branding include keeping the brand contemporary. Use popular colors, a current type font, and a clean layout. A brand should support a business' core values, but it should also reassure customers that the business is operating in the present day and is up-to-date.
